Theme: Green Energy TechnologyThe theme of this year’s conference is “Green Energy Technology.” With the President Obama Energy initiative and the inception of ARPA-E to be the government incubator for energy related innovation to push the frontier of new technological revolutions, there are many great challenges and opportunities not only to scientists and engineers, but also to those whose profession is to reflect on science and technology and their place in society. This one-day conference will provide an excellent opportunity to explore the latest green energy technologies, including bio-fuel, solar energy, fuel cell, smart grid, and government energy policy. Several experts in the field from both countries have been invited to give speech on this visionary theme.

Presidential Green Chemistry Challenge Award WinnerWe are greatly pleased that the featured speaker, Dr. James Liao, will present his innovative research work on bio-fuel. Dr. Liao is the recipient of 2010 Presidential Award from EPA. His lab developed methods for production of more efficient biofuels and received wide press coverage. His work is featured on The White House Blog, as "Winning the Biofuel Future" (http://www.whitehouse.gov/blog/2011/03/07/winning-biofuel-future) for the innovation of using a microbe to convert plant matter directly into isobutanol, which can be burned in regular car engines with a heat value similar to gasoline.

2011年台美科技研討會
由台美航太協會與台灣行政院國家科學委員會共同主辦的「2011年台美科技研討會」將於西元2011年11月5日在 Hilton Irvine/Orange County Airport （8800 MacArthur Blvd., Irvine）舉行。這是過去十一年來台美航太協會第七次舉辦台美科技研討會以提倡科技新知及促進台灣與美國間的科技交流。台美航太協會是由台灣旅美航太專業人士在洛杉磯成立的科技專業團體。
今年研討會的主題是「綠色能源科技」。隨著「能源」對社會，經濟，政治，和戰略的影響日益加深，各國政府莫不視之為未來命脈科技。而『京都協定』簽署後，各國政府對無石化污染的綠色能源也愈趨重視，綠色能源科技的研發繼而成為一門科技顯學。美國政府更於2007 年成立隸屬能源部的ARPA-E （Advanced Research Projects Agency-Energy能源部高級研究計劃局），提供研究基金以提倡先進能源科技的研發。ARPA-E的策略與研發方向將成為未來綠色能源科技發展的一個重要指標。為讓與會者能更清楚了解ARPA-E的運作，在本研討會中，將由本會代表簡介ARPA-E的緣起與及其研究基金的申請，以激發研究之精神。
此次研討會將就兩子題邀請台灣與美國的專家學者作專題演講。第一子題為綠色能源科技之發展、第二子題為能源管理與整合科技。獲邀出席此次研討會的講員涵蓋台美兩地的綠色能源科技專家與學者。研討領域涵蓋生質能源，太陽能源，奈米能源，太空能源，智能電網，及燃料電池等最尖端的研究及最新的商業應用。受邀者學者中，洛杉磯加大教授廖俊智博士甫獲美國環保 屬頒發「總統綠化學挑戰獎」(Presidential Green Chemistry Challenge) 中個人最高榮譽的「學術獎」。
